My Summer As A CSI Connect Intern: Madison Johns

Over the course of my internship with CSI Companies, I had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in corporate accounting and contribute to a variety of projects. Throughout the summer, I supported month-end and quarter-end close activities, prepared journal entries, completed reconciliations, and analyzed financial data. Working with real financial information allowed me to apply concepts from my accounting courses in a professional setting while developing a stronger understanding of how accounting supports business operations. 

One of the most valuable aspects of the experience was the opportunity to work on different projects across the department. Whether I was investigating account variances, assisting with expense reporting, or supporting process improvement efforts, each assignment presented a new challenge and helped strengthen my analytical and problem-solving skills. I also collaborated with employees across different teams, gaining insight into how departments work together to support the organization. 

Beyond the technical skills I developed, this internship helped me grow professionally and personally. My managers encouraged me to ask questions and challenged me to work through tasks independently while always being available to provide guidance when needed. As a result, I became more confident taking on unfamiliar tasks and finding solutions on my own. These experiences reinforced the importance of adaptability, communication, and continuous learning in a professional environment. 

 This summer reinforced my interest in accounting and helped clarify my future career goals. The experience provided valuable exposure to the day-to-day responsibilities of accounting professionals and strengthened my desire to pursue my CPA license after graduation. I am grateful for the mentorship, support, and opportunities I received at CSI Companies, and I look forward to applying what I learned as I continue my education and professional journey.
